Do Breast Implants need to be routinely replaced every 10 years?
Dr Mayson’s simple answer to this commonly asked question is NO!
While it is unrealistic to expect that every breast implant will last indefinitely, Dr Mayson does not believe that it is necessary to routinely replace implants every 10 years if there is no problem with them.
Implants in some women may last many years while in others they need to be replaced on one or more occasions for various reasons. Although there are many women who have had the same breast implants in place for many years without any problems, there are also women who have had to replace their implants within a relatively short period of time. Accordingly, the exact life span of any implant is unpredictable and varies from woman to woman.
So, if after considering all the above information you decide to proceed and enjoy the various personal benefits breast augmentation has to offer, please bear in mind that there is always the chance that, at some time in the future, replacement of implants could be required if a problem arises.
However, in the absence of any problems, and contrary to what some Internet websites recommend, Dr Mayson does not believe that routine implant replacement every 10 years is either necessary or justified.
