The sequence of steps in having a Breast Augmentation by Dr Mayson in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne are as follows:
1: Book Your Consultation(s)
Dr Mayson believes that as a prospective patient considering Breast Augmentation you need to be FULLY informed on ALL aspects of Breast Augmentation so that you are then able to make an informed decision as to whether or not to have the procedure.
If you wish to have your consultations in Sydney you will need TWO consultations:
- A very detailed Initial Consultation (lasting around 1½ hours) in order to cover all the necessary information on Breast Augmentation.
- A Second Consultation (up to 1 hour) to take detailed chest measurements, compare and select implants and decide on the surgical plan that will best achieve
Please note that in special circumstances (e.g. for interstate/overseas patients, those patients travelling long distances, or those with time constraints) you may be able to have your Second Consultation on the same day as the Initial Consultation in order to avoid the inconvenience of a return trip to Sydney.
If, however, you are seeing Dr Mayson in Brisbane or Melbourne, for your convenience we merge both consultations into one extra-long Initial Consultation of around 2 hours.
2. Book Your Surgery
Once you have booked your procedure, you will receive a package of information containing detailed Pre- & Post-Operative Instructions, Prescriptions, and a Pathology Request Form.
3. Pre-Operative Preparation
- In the best interests of patient safety, all patients are required to have pre-operative pathology investigations to ensure they are fit and healthy to undergo anaesthesia and surgery.
- If you are over 39, or younger with a family history of Breast Cancer, you will also need to have a Pre-operative Mammogram & Breast Ultrasound.
- You will need to purchase a specific type of support bra that must be worn for 3 months after your surgery.
- You must follow exactly the detailed Pre-Operative Instructions as to which foods and medications to avoid in the two weeks prior to surgery.
4. On the Day of Surgery
Arrive at the hospital 1½ hours prior to your surgery. In the best interests of patient comfort and safety, Dr Mayson performs all Breast Augmentations under General Anaesthesia in a sterile Operating Theatre within a fully-accredited Hospital.
The entire procedure normally takes around two hours. After a further two hours in Recovery you can go home. However, please note that you cannot go home alone. You must arrange for a responsible person to escort you home and be with you for the next 24 hours.
5. Post-Operative Recovery
Naturally, post-operative discomfort varies from person to person but is easily managed by pain-relievers and it is relatively short-lived. You can also take comfort in the knowledge that, after your surgery, Dr Mayson is contactable 24 hours a day, every day, should you have any questions or concerns. Depending on your type of work, most patients are able to return to work within 2 weeks but you must avoid strenuous physical activities for the first 3 months and body-contact sports for 6 months. You must also wear a specific, non-‘under-wire’ bra during the first 3 months. Dr Mayson will provide you with very detailed Post-Operative Instructions on exactly what you should and should not do once you have booked your procedure.
6. Follow-Up Appointments
Sutures are removed 7-10 days later. If you are from out-of-town we can provide detailed instructions for your local doctor on how to remove them.
All patients are asked to return for routine review 3-4 months after surgery, and sometimes 6-12 months later as well. Dr Mayson does not charge any fees for these routine follow-up appointments.
